Donald Trump delivered remarks on Monday, ostensibly about the economy, to try and focus his campaign message in the key swing state of Pennsylvania.
However, true to form, the former president struggled to stay on topic, often drifting into his usual list of grievances and failing to deliver a cohesive message.
On Sunday, Trump was warned by MAGA ally Lindsey Graham that he could lose November’s presidential election to Kamala Harris if he continues to indulge his “provocateur” instincts by making personal attacks on his Democratic rival, rather than offering substantive policy critiques.
The former president further stoked controversy by turning to artificial intelligence to push a bogus “Swifties for Trump” campaign, falsely claiming that the hugely popular singer-songwriter Taylor Swift, a Democrat, is backing his presidential run.
His running mate, JD Vance, meanwhile made a bizarre comparison between Harris and the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, a smear certain to backfire given that Trump once praised Epstein as a “terrific guy”.
Meanwhile, the disgraced former New York Republican congressman and Trump ally George Santos, ousted amid a series of scandals, faces prison time after pleading guilty to fraud crimes at court in Islip, Long Island.

ICYMI: Flustered Trump still has no answer to enthusiasm for Harris
Donald Trump summoned reporters to one of his properties for the second time in as many weeks to deliver a campaign message – but they would be hard-pressed to find something new or interesting to write about.
He spoke for roughly 40 minutes before taking questions at his Bedminster, New Jersey golf resort. His lengthy diatribe touched on Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, and a wide range of other issues — trucks, domestic energy policy, China and the wars in Gaza and Ukraine — all while flanked by two tables covered in groceries including Cheerios, a pack of quickly-warming raw bacon, and tins of coffee.
It was a spectacle that was clearly focused by his campaign to provide a platform for the GOP contender to attack Harris over economic issues, particularly inflation and the cost of consumer goods.
However, the lack of focus led to Thursday night’s event dragging on.

Vance makes bizarre comparison between Harris and Jeffrey Epstein and dismisses latest polls
JD Vance likened Vice President Kamala Harris to pedophile Jeffrey Epstein in a wild interview on Sunday, where he also claimed that polls showing him and Donald Trump losing are “fake”.
Speaking on Fox News Sunday, the Republican vice presidential candidate made the bizarre comparison between the Democratic presidential contender and Epstein, the late notorious sex criminal who had known connections to central figures in American political life, including both Donald Trump and Bill Clinton.

Just in: US intelligence agencies blame Iran for Trump campaign hacking attempt
US intelligence agencies have reported that Iran was behind the recent hacking attempts of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.
A joint statement from the FBI, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency said that “Iran seeks to stoke discord and undermine confidence in our democratic institutions.”
“Iran has furthermore demonstrated a longstanding interest in exploiting societal tensions through various means, including through the use of cyber operations to attempt to gain access to sensitive information related to U.S. elections,” the statement added.
The agencies have “observed increasingly aggressive Iranian activity during this election cycle, specifically involving influence operations targeting the American public and cyber operations targeting presidential campaigns” — including “recently reported activities to compromise former President Trump’s campaign.”
“Iranians have through social engineering and other efforts sought access to individuals with direct access to the presidential campaigns of both political parties,” the statement added. “Such activity, including thefts and disclosures, are intended to influence the US election process.”
Earlier this year, Republican operative Roger Stone’s email account was the victim of a phishing attempt, and his account was allegedly used to try to break into another that belonged to a senior campaign official.
Documents that included background files on JD Vance were later leaked to several media outlets, though it remains unclear whether those phishing attempts led to the leaks.

Republicans will join the swathes of Democrats descending on Chicago this week as Trumpworld tries to find a way to blunt Kamala Harris‘s momentum.
As the four-day Democratic National Convention gets under way in the Windy City, Donald Trump and his allies are making plans for counter-programming to the event.
Trump’s Chicago hotel will become the epicenter of the Republican world as his allies including Florida Senator Rick Scott and his colleague in the House, Byron Donalds, are among those who will lead the GOP’s efforts to counter-program the convention.

Baby boomers are fleeing Trump and switching allegiance to Harris
A new poll shows some baby boomers and members of the Silent Generation are switching allegiances from former President Donald Trump to Vice President Kamala Harris.
The Emerson College poll released Thursday shows voters over 70 backing Harris over Trump 51 to 48 percent. That’s a small but positive shift for Harris, as last month, 50 percent of the group supported Trump while 48 percent backed President Joe Biden, who dropped out of the race and endorsed Harris last month.
The group includes some baby boomers, who were born between 1946 and 1964, and the Silent Generation, born between 1925 and 1945.
Gustaf Kilander reports.
