Loyola to face Creighton, Omaha on the road in Jesuit Invitational

CHICAGO - The Loyola University Chicago men's soccer team heads west for the renewed Jesuit Invitational this weekend. The Ramblers will square off against Creighton Thursday (Aug. 29) before wrapping up the weekend Sunday (Sept. 1) versus Omaha. Both matches will be played on the home fields of Loyola's respective opponents.
KICKING OFF- Loyola's match against the Bluejays is slated for 1p.m. CT inside Morrison Stadium with the action streaming live on FloSports. The Maroon and Gold will take on the Mavericks at 1 p.m. on Caniglia Field live on Midco Sports Plus.
- Most recently, the Ramblers opened the season at Michigan on Aug. 22, and fell, 1-0. After a scoreless first half, U-M broke the deadlock with a goal in the 63rd minute. In a close match, the 'Blers had just two fewer shots than the Wolverines (14 (4) - 12 (3))
- Loyola Chicago enters the regular season with three exhibition matches under its belt. The Ramblers began the thee-game slate by hosting Wisconsin before traveling to Western Michigan. LUC ended the preseason with a neutral site meeting against Milwaukee.
- This is the first time since 2004 Loyola has played three-straight games away from Rogers Park to open a season.
- After finishing second in the 2023 league standings, LUC was picked to finish fourth in this year's Atlantic 10 Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Maroon and Gold received two first-place votes in the poll.
- Goalkeeper Aidan Crawford, who was named the A-10 Goalkeeper of the Year in 2023, landed on Preseason All-Conference Team. He's the sole keeper on the A-10's preseason team.
- Johnny Torres is in his sixth season at the helm of Creighton and holds a 41-33-17 overall record.
- Last season, Creighton complied a 4-7-6 overall record and was eliminated in the first round of the BIg East Tournament after a 3-0 loss to Providence.
- The Bluejays opened 2024 with a 0-0 draw versus FAU but rebounded for a 5-3 win over Drake in a high-scoring affair. Both matches were played at Morrison Stadium.
- Gavrillo Civric paces the squad with two goals and four points while Miguel Arilla leads with seven shots.
- Civric was recently named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for his efforts in the win over Drake.
- The Bluejays were selected to finish third in the Midwest Division of the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll.
- Third-year head coach Donovan Dowling has complied an 18-14-6 record in three seasons at Omaha.
- The Mavericks won the 2023 Summit League Tournament and owned an 8-8-4 record through the season.
- Omaha beat Kansas City, 2-0, in the title bout and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
- Omaha was eliminated in the first round, falling 1-0 to Missouri State.
- The Mavericks have opened 2024 undefeated, beating Oakland on the road, 2-1, and FAU, 3-2, at home.
- Theo Klein leads the team with two goals and one assist for five points. Both of his goals came in the win over FAU.
- The Omaha men's soccer team was picked to finish second in the Summit League Preseason Poll
- In an all-time series that dates to 1993, Loyola trails, 0-5-1, to the Bluejays.
- The most recent meeting occurred Sept. 27, 2016. Creighton won, 3-0.
- No. 10/10 Creighton handed No. 12/8 Loyola Chicago its first defeat of that season as Loyola entered the match 7-0-0.
- Ryan Howe led Loyola's efforts in the offensive third on the night, recording a team-high four attempts, two of which were on target.
- This will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs
- Last season, Loyola Chicago compiled an 8-2-5 overall record and was 4-1-3 in conference play.
- In its third season as part of the Atlantic 10, LUC looks to earn its first conference championship since 2019.
- The Ramblers return 16 student-athletes from the 2023 roster, including nine with starting experience under their belt.
- Along with their returners, the Ramblers added 13 key pieces to the 2024 roster, including 10 freshmen and three transfers.
