How to Decorate Pizzelle Cookies (1)

Decorating Pizzelle Cookies

I have seen pizzelle cookies in the store before and thought they looked interesting. I did some looking online for a recipe and discovered it involves a waffle maker type device to make the cookies. It was a little more effort than I wanted to do, but I wanted to add chocolate to them.

Pizzelle cookies are Italian cookies that are light weight. You can find them in different flavors (if you are lucky). They sort of taste like light waffle cones and have that crunch too.

These are perfect to decorate and give as a gift for Christmas, but you can give these cookies some pizzazz any time of the year, birthday parties, new years or at a cookie exchange.

What Decorations Are Used on Pizzelles?

You can use your favorite holiday cookie decorations. We used chopped nuts, mini chocolate chips colored sugars and crushed peppermint candy canes.

We found having all the decorations in different containers, helps keep clean up down.

Even having a bowl to pour over into worked well to capture the extras instead of cleaning up the counter.

How Package Pizzelle Cookies for Gifts?

You can place them in beautiful boxes to give as gifts or wrap in parchment paper with a bow. Serve them on a beautiful pie stand at your party.

Do You Dip The Entire Cookie In Chocolate?

We only dip half the cookie in chocolate. They become very heavy and brittle when you dip the entire cookie (not to mention hard to handle when you dip the entire thing.

Only get chocolate on the front, so that it is easy to lift (without breaking) off the parchment or silicone mat. You can use a spatula to spread the chocolate if needed to make it easier to only coat the front/top.

What Do Pizzelle Cookies Taste Like?

The cookies come in many different flavors, vanilla is our favorite. You can find them in anise flavor as well. They are similar to a waffle cone, but lighter and fragile.

Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • pizzelle cookies
  • sprinkles
  • chopped nuts
  • mini chocolate chips
  • crushed peppermint candy canes
  • melted white chocolate
  • melted milk chocolate

Instructions

  • You will want microwaveable containers to melt the chocolate in separately. Have parchment paper or a drying rack to let the cookies dry as well.

  • Take a cookie and only dip the front of the cookie (dipping the back gets it stuck to the parchment paper and the cooling rack breaking the cookie). Turn the cookie and ensure the entire top is covered in chocolate if you want.

  • Take your topping of choice and sprinkle it on top of the chocolate. Set your cookie down to cool and move on to the next one. Repeat until all your cookies are decorated.

  • You can place them in beautiful boxes to give as gifts or wrap in parchment paper with a bow. Serve them on a beautiful pie stand at your party.
